Parking Information FAQs
Below are answers to commonly asked questions and guidelines for Park Catonsville
What is Park Catonsville?
Park Catonsville is a free community resource that helps visitors, shoppers, and residents quickly find available parking in Catonsville’s historic downtown. The site shows you where you can legally park right now, including metered street parking, free street parking, and private lots participating in the community shared parking program, all on a single interactive map.
Is this an official government website?
No. Park Catonsville is a community-run resource developed in collaboration with the Catonsville Chamber of Commerce and local business owners. It is not affiliated with Baltimore County or any government agency.
Where can I find metered parking on Frederick Road?
Metered parking spaces are located along Frederick Road throughout the downtown business district, as well as on a few side streets. Use the map on this site to find the nearest available metered space to your destination. Green pins indicate spaces where parking is currently permitted.
How much do the parking meters cost?
Meters are $0.50 per hour. You can pay with coins, a credit card, or the ParkMobile app. Look for the zone number posted on the meter sign to use the app.
How long can I park at a metered spot?
All metered spaces in Catonsville have a 2-hour maximum stay.
What streets have free, unmetered parking?
Free, unmetered street parking is available on many streets throughout the downtown area, including Holmhurst Avenue, Delrey Avenue, Glenwood Avenue, St. Timothy’s Lane, Egges Lane, Melrose Avenue, Melvin Avenue, Sanford Avenue, Locust Drive, N. Beaumont Avenue, S. Beaumont Avenue, Osborne Avenue, Forest Drive, Wyndcrest Avenue, N. Beechwood Avenue, S. Beechwood Avenue, Park Drive, and Stanley Drive. Frederick Road, Mellor Avenue, and Newburg Avenue also have unmetered sections beyond their metered blocks. As always, check the map for current restrictions before you park, as some spaces may have time limits or other rules that apply.
What are the parking hours? When do restrictions apply, and when is parking free?
Metered parking is enforced Monday through Saturday, 8AM to 6PM. During those hours, the 2-hour limit and $0.50/hour rate apply. Outside of those hours, evenings after 6PM, Sundays, and federal holidays, metered spaces are free with no time limit. Unmetered street parking is always free.
Are there handicap-accessible spaces, and where are they?
Handicap-accessible metered spaces are available throughout the downtown area. Vehicles with a valid handicap placard or license plate may park at metered spaces for free, for up to twice the posted time limit, so up to 4 hours in a standard 2-hour metered space. Accessible spaces in participating ParkShip lots are shown on the map.
What is the ParkShip program?
The Catonsville ParkShip program is a community shared parking initiative that connects visitors with privately owned parking lots that are open to the public during off-peak hours. Participating lot owners, including local churches, businesses, and other property owners, make their lots available when they are not otherwise in use, helping visitors find parking beyond the limited supply of metered street spaces.
Which private lots participate in shared parking?
All participating ParkShip lots are shown on the map. When a lot is currently open to visitor parking, its pin will appear green. Tap or click any green pin to see that lot’s available hours and any restrictions.
Can anyone park in a participating lot, or is it only for customers?
Participating ParkShip lots are open to all visitors. You do not need to be a customer of any particular business to park there. The lots are shared as a community courtesy, so please be respectful of the property and observe any posted hours or restrictions.
Are participating lots free?
Yes, parking in ParkShip lots is free of charge.
How do I know if a lot is currently available?
The map updates automatically based on each lot’s posted hours. If a lot is currently open to visitor parking, its pin will appear green. If it is outside those hours, the pin will appear red. Always check for posted signs when you arrive, as conditions may occasionally differ from what is shown on the map.
What does it mean when a pin is red?
A red pin means that parking is not currently permitted at that location. Please do not park at red-pin locations. The ParkShip program works because lot owners trust visitors to respect the rules, and ignoring a red pin puts that goodwill at risk for everyone. Check back later, as a red pin may turn green when the lot opens to visitors.
Can I get directions from the map?
Yes. Tap or click any pin to see details about that location, including a link to get directions that will open in your phone’s mapping app.
The map says a lot is open but it looks full. What should I do?
The map shows whether a lot is currently permitted for visitor parking based on its posted hours. It does not track how many spaces are physically available. If a lot looks full when you arrive, head back to the map and look for another green pin nearby.
Are parking rules the same at every location?
